Exercises

Since the exercises will be done with MATLAB, you might be looking for a starting point. Try out one of these:

• MATLAB Documentation Complete documentation too all toolboxes, including the often highly recommendable printed documentation (PDF-format).
• MATLAB Introduction If you have not worked with MATLAB before, this is the point to start.
• MathWorks This is the home-site of MATLAB. Here you also find free programs from other MATLAB users, which address a large amount of problems.

Arecommendable guide to good programming style is MatlabStyle.pdf (by Richard Johnson)

I have also put together an overview of the different MATLAB Help Tools.

For the exercises we will look at three projects, which can be done in collaboration with other students. Each of these projects will do all the signal processing that is necessary to build an electronic implant for the...

• Ear (Cochlea Implants): Cochlea implants are now standard procedures in the treatment of certain hearing disorders.
• Eye (Visual Prosthesis): While this is not established yet, a number of groups are working on retinal and cortical prostheses.
• Balance system (Vestibular Prosthesis): Is currently tried out in rhesus monkeys and chinchillas.

Retinal implants and vestibular implants are still "work in progress". The projects would go over the whole semester.
